This First aid for the animals article from the Vernon Morning Star gives an idea of what the course covers:

The Pet First Aid program focuses on dogs and cats, with some time spent on birds and smaller mammals. It includes preventative care, basic safety, emergency scene management and assessment of injured unconscious animals.

Participants learn how to do artificial respiration and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, as well as how to deal with airway obstruction, choking, and how to perform the Heimlich Manoeuvre. [continue]
