You’re invited to a haiku presentation on Sunday, July 26th at 10 am. It’s at the Gabriola Commons. Here are all the details from the Poetry Gabriola Society‘s announcement:

Pacific-kana (the Pacific wing of Haiku Canada) is delighted to announce that Poetry Gabriola is helping, yet once more, to sponsor our annual haiku presentation on Gabriola, Sunday, 10 am, July 26th, 2009 at The Commons, Gabriola Island.

The morning starts with a presentation by Christopher Herold, lay Zen monk and former publisher of the distinguished haiku journal The Heron’s Nest. Christopher will be basing his workshop, Feathering the Moment, on Bash?’s quote: Haiku is simply what is happening in this place at this time. By exploring the meaning of this place and this time, we will gain a deeper appreciation for our environment, our emotional states, and, of course, the essence of haiku.

In the second part of the morning, distinguished haiku writer and editor Michael Dylan Welch will present Cracking You Open: The Joy of Haiku, a celebratory exploration of how haiku arises out of joy, and can produce joy in those who write it and read it. He’ll explore aspects of joy and wonder in haiku, an dhow even dark subjects can be joyful. His presentation will include a handout of Joy and Wonder haiku and other poems, plus numerous inspirational quotations relating to the theme. Come prepared to be inspired by the joy of haiku.

Fee: by donation.
