Himalayan Festival
Gabriola’s Himalayan Festival will be on Thursday, July 9th at the Community Hall. It starts at 6pm. This event is a fundraiser for the Citta Hospital in Humla, Nepal.
The evening begins with a Nepali vegetarian dinner. Then Dr Larry Hill will show slides of his recent dental camp at the Citta Hospital in Simikot. After that we’ll watch the 2007 BBC documentary, The Lost World of Tibet. It includes rare colour footage of life in Tibet during the 30s and 40s, including an exclusive interview with the Dalai Lama, focusing on his early life and childhood.
Amnesty International will be there; you can take part in their write-a-thon for prisoners. There will be raffle prizes and a silent auction, too.
Admission is by donation. Dinner is 10.00; here’s the menu:
- Aloo Dum (spiced Nepali pototoes)
- Channa Masala (chickpeas in spiced tomato sauce)
- Basmati Rice and Coleslaw
- Chai (spiced milk tea)
