Gabriola Barn Dance with The HaintsCome celebrate summer at a Gabriola Old Time Barn Dance. It’ll be at the Community Hall on July 10th, and music will be provided by The Haints. (Visit their website if you’d like to hear samples of their music.)

The dance starts at 7:30 pm. If you arrive at 6:30, you’ll get a one-hour workshop in the art of social dancing before the dance starts.

Tickets are available at Artworks for 15.00.

Here’s the official announcement, which is way more fun than you’d expect:

Grab your sweetie, bring your family and come on down to the Gabriola Community Hall for an old-fashioned old-time barn dance. This is the kick-off event for The Dancing Man Festival 2009 and you don’t want to miss it! There’ll be live music featuring a crackerjack stringband, BC’s own The Haints, and a caller all the way from the States. This is social dancing at its finest and you’ll cut a rug with everyone in the room before the night is done. Think square dancing, but friendlier. There’ll be a workshop to teach you the steps so you’ll know your way around when the dance proper begins.

A little shy about dancing? Just come for the music then. This band is hotter than a cast iron skillet at cornbread time! The fiddler won a major old-time competition in West Virginia last year, and the banjo and guitar run with her every note of the way. They play old-time mountain music with an energy and authenticity rarely heard in these parts so don’t pass up this opportunity to wrap your ears around the real deal.
